TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of Police Mobile Brigade personnel convoyed on motorbikes and cars, circling around the Attorney General Office's (AGO) headquarters on Monday evening, May 20, 2024. This happened exactly one day after a member of the Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) was caught spying the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah.

Based on Tempo's monitoring, two cars and several motorbikes were seen in the convoy. At that time, Tempo was outside the grounds of Christina Martha Tiahahu Park, which is about 500 meters from the AGO headquarters.

A number of witnesses who saw the convoy thought the police were on patrol to monitor security around the Blok M area. However, irregularities were seen because the convoy of officers in full uniform circled the Attorney General's Office area several times.

A police officer using a large motorbike was seen at the front of the convoy. Meanwhile, other personnel were riding trail motorbikes and cars were following behind him. Every time they pass the AGO building, the large motorbike always made loud sound. The driver appeared revving the engine of his motorbike loudly several times—even howling several times.

"Every time the leader, the one with the big motorbike, passes the front of the AGO building, he always drive the motorbike at high speed while making loud sound, revving the engine," said a witness named Yustri.

Yustri remembered that the motorbike rider was wearing a leather jacket. He also wore black uniform pants with boots. "In the second round of the convoy, some people wore brown and black uniforms," he said.

There was also a police officer who was seen standing on a motorbike while filming the convoy that night. That police officer was in full uniform and he was at the very back of the convoy. Another person stood in a similar position from the back of a car while filming the scene of dozens of police officers circling the AGO building aggresively.

"The person riding on the back of the motorbike was on standby with a cellphone while he was live," said Yustri.

At first Yustri thought that a group of police officers were on patrol. However, Yustri was surprised that the group did not take action against a number of motorcyclists who were not wearing helmets. Instead, they kept on circling along with other drivers passing on the road.

Yustri recalled that the convoy only stopped at around 03:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time) in the morning. "They came back and forth until late. That night was quite disturbing," said Yustri.

This occurred exactly one day after a member of Densus 88 was arrested for allegedly spying on Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Diansyah. The incident occurred at a restaurant in Cipete, South Jakarta.

Two Tempo sources who are familiar with the Jampidsus incident said that the arrest began when two suspicious people entered the French food restaurant after Febrie arrived. They came on foot.

When they arrived at the restaurant, they booked a place on the second floor, specifically in the smoking area, not far from where Febrie was sitting. Strangely, they continued to wear masks and only occasionally smoked cigarettes.

One of them then pointed a device suspected of being a recorder at Febrie. Members of the Military Police, who were guarding Febrie, were suspicious of this behavior then immediately apprehended the man and took him away from the restaurant, while the other man ran away.

A source familiar with the Jampidsus incident said there was no commotion. "Maybe because they are both officials, so they don't want to make a fuss," he said," said the source.

After being interrogated, the man who was caught was found to be a member of Densus 88. Until now, the purpose and objective of the stalking is unclear. The National Police and the Attorney General's Office have not yet spoken about these two incidents.
