TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dieng Culture Festival, one of Indonesia's most sought-after annual events, returns this August. Themed ‘The Journey’, the festival will be held in the Dieng Kulon Tourism Village, Banjarnegara, Central Java, and will showcase the richness of local culture, various art performances, and many other interesting shows.

This year’s festival has been set for August 23 to 25. The main event of this festival is the Dieng children’s dreadlock-cutting ritual, a sacred tradition led by local elders and community leaders.

The day before the haircutting procession, prayer rituals are carried out at various sacred spots across Dieng, including Bima Temple, Dwarawati Temple, and Sendang Maerokoco.

Apart from cultural and spiritual events, the festival also features musical performances by well-known artists such as Andien, Marcell Siahaan, Budi Doremi, Denny Caknan, and Stars & Rabbit.

Tickets for the festival are available in two categories; daily tickets and personal bundling tickets. The daily ticket is sold for Rp150,000 with limited access facilities to the festival and performance areas. Meanwhile, the personal bundling ticket is priced at Rp350,000, which provides full access to all performances.

The Dieng Culture Festival was first held in 2010. However, a similar event dubbed Dieng Culture Week had been held two years earlier. According to Indonesia Travel, the annual event was initiated by the Dieng Pandawa tourism group, in collaboration with Equator Sinergi Indonesia and Dieng Ecotourism.
