TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China-based TV manufacturer The Creative Life (TCL) is developing a short film, Next Stop Paris, using AI generation tools. All the characters and scenes in the romantic movie were generated by AI.
Gizmochina reported on April 16 that TCL used an AI-based text-to-video conversion tool, Runway ML, to produce Next Stop Paris. It also used Midjourney, another AI tool, for text-to-image needs.
TCL Group premiered a one-minute trailer on its YouTube account TCLtvplus on April 12, showing the main characters meeting on a train to Paris. While the movie needs some polishing, such as visual clarity, to make it seem more real, it could be the first milestone in the development of AI for movie production.
Although Next Stop Paris was generated by AI, TCL said it still used the services of filmmakers and for technical matters such as audio and human motion references, as these are things that AI tools cannot provide - for now.
TCL, the world's second-largest maker of televisions, is encouraging the use of AI to cut down on the massive cost required by big-budget movie production, especially Hollywood’s. However, the manufacturer acknowledges the need for further development, aware that the generative AI feature is only capable of creating short films.
