TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Conflicts between countries in the Middle East continue to escalate following Iran's strike on Israel on Saturday night, April 13, 2024. This tension could have an impact on various economic indicators in Indonesia.

In response, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Sunday evening, April 14, held a meeting with her deputy Suahasil Nazara and the ministry's first echelon officials, including Tax Director General Suryo Utomo, Director General of Budgetary Isa Rachmatawarta, and her special staff Yustinus Prastowo.

"The development of the global economic and financial situation and very high geopolitical tensions are moving quickly and dynamically. "This condition affects various economic indicators that need to be anticipating and monitoring," Sri said in a post on her official Instagram account @smindrawati on Sunday.

The former World Bank managing director said that an important tool that Indonesia will continue to use to face global and national turbulence and dynamics is the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

In the meeting, they also discussed Indonesia’s preparations for the G20 summit next week and the IMF - World Bank Spring Meeting.

Tensions in the Middle East continue to rise after Iran said that Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, Syria, killing at least seven members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, two of whom were generals and/or senior military commanders.

While Israel had denied the allegations, Iran responded by firing dozens of ballistic missiles and drones into Israel on Saturday night, April 13.

Iran's ambassador to the UN, Amit Saeid Iravan, immediately wrote to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterrea and Vanezza Frazier, representing Malta as president of the Security Council. In the letter, Iran informed the UN Security Council that the strike on Israeli military targets was an exercise of Iran's inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
