TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that floods that hit Pasuruan, East Java, have receded, and the socio-economic activities of the local community have returned to normal.

"The floods have receded," Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB's Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, said in a statement received by Indonesia Window here on Friday, April 12, 2024, as reported by Antara.

According to Muhari, the flooding occurred after Pasuruan was hit by moderate-intensity rain for a long duration from Tuesday, April 9, 2024 night, until Thursday, April 11, 2024.

The Welang River, Petung River, and Kedularangan River overflow further exacerbated the condition.

The Pasuruan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) team noted that the overflowing rivers flooded hundreds of houses, some up to 60-70 centimeters.

The flood-affected areas include Pohjentrek, Gondangwetang, Bangul, Rembang, Beji, Rejoso, and Kraton sub-districts. Muhari said, one resident of Pohjentrek Subdistrict was reported dead due to the flood.

Muhari added that the conditions in the area are getting conducive. Traffic flow on Tambakrejo Road, Kraton, Pasuruan, which had been choked due to flooding, has returned to normal.
