TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission or KPU Head Hasyim Asy’ari announced on March 31 that the agency will form ad hoc bodies for regional head elections (Pilkada) on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Responding to the plan, Padjadjaran University political science observer Yusa Djuyandi reminded KPU on Sunday that it “must pay attention to the commitment to neutrality and the principle of openness", as quoted by Antara.
The KPU ad hoc bodies for the 2024 regional head elections will consist of sub-district election committees (PPK), voting committees (PPS) at the village levels, and voting organizer groups (KPPS).
According to KPU Regulation Number 2 of 2024, the formation of the KPU ad hoc bodies is slated for April 17 to November 5, 2024.
In addition, the formation of sub-district supervisory committees (Panwaslu), field supervisory committees (PPL), and polling station supervisors (TPS) will be held according to the schedule set by the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).
Previously, Hasyim Asy'ari said the formation of the ad hoc bodies was a symbol that the 2024 regional head elections had begun. "Technically, the [elections] will begin on April 17, 2024, for the formation of election ad hoc bodies," said Hasyim.
Bawaslu Forms Ad Hoc Body before KPU
Bawaslu, on the other hand, will form ad hoc bodies for the 2024 regional head elections earlier than KPU. "We will certainly (form the election ad hoc body) earlier than KPU," said Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Bawaslu will oversee the recruitment of the upcoming KPU ad hoc bodies. Therefore, Bawaslu will form its ad hoc bodies earlier than KPU.
