TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government issued a statement on Tuesday, April 2, condemning the Israeli attack on the Iranian Embassy building in Damascus, Syria, on Monday, April 1. Iran confirmed that the bombs killed seven of its military advisers, including three senior commanders.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack against the Iranian diplomatic premise and facilities in Damascus,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its X social media.

The attack, the ministry said, was a direct violation of international law and the United Nations or UN Charter. “It is yet another dangerous action by Israel that will further escalate conflict in the region and diminish the prospect of a lasting peace,” it added.

Indonesia's statement echoed that of Iran's representative at the UN, who described the attack as a "flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the foundational principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises."

The strike was also deemed "a significant threat to regional peace and security". Iran urged the UN Security Council to condemn the attack. It also claimed that Tehran has the right "to take a decisive response."

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad was seen at the site along with Syrian Home Affairs Minister Mohammad Khaled al-Rahmoun. “We strongly condemn this atrocious terrorist attack that targeted the Iranian consulate building in Damascus and killed a number of innocents,” Mekdad said as reported by Reuters.
