TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Kadir Jailani, and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, jointly launched the official logo commemorating Indonesia-Australia 75 years of bilateral relations (28/3), as reported from kemlu.go.id.

According to Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the logo has a Garuda and Kangaroo design with red, white, and blue patterns that symbolise the characteristics of both countries and will be used throughout the year.

Director General Jailani highlighted that life does not allow us to choose our neighbours; thus, by nature, Indonesia-Australia relations are no less than fate. In this regard, it goes without saying that Indonesia and Australia should join hands towards mutual advancement. 75 years of bilateral relations had given birth to a plethora of collaborations and opened up far-reaching and beneficial opportunities between the people of both countries.

“I believe there are still many other potential opportunities that have not been explored," said Director General Jailani.

The chosen logo was the result of a public competition involving citizens of Indonesia and Australia. According to the winner, Alif Pandu Sofyana, the two national animals were deliberately positioned to the right and facing ahead to symbolise shared progress and unity towards a bright future.

In addition to the logo unveiling, the occasion showcased a collaborative mural crafted by artists hailing from Indonesia and Australia. Throughout 2024, the mural titled "Together" will be on exhibit, and it is hoped that the public will be able to interact with and appreciate this mural via augmented reality (AR).

Indonesia-Australia bilateral relations were formally established on 27 December 1949. A sequence of 75th anniversary events will be held throughout 2024. Among these, the Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize a “Batik Bootcamp" in September of this year at Yogyakarta.
