Indonesia, Sudan Discuss Preparation to Send Medical Aid Amounting to USD 1 Million to Sudan

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) to Sudan, Sunarko, Minister of Health of Sudan, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, as well as officials from the Sudanese Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a coordination meeting for medical aid delivery at the Ministry of Health in Port Sudan on Friday, March 29, 2024.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) to Sudan, Sunarko, Minister of Health of Sudan, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, as well as officials from the Sudanese Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a coordination meeting for a medical aid delivery at the Ministry of Health in Port Sudan on Friday, March 29, 2024, as reported from kemlu.go.id.

"Emergency medical assistance from the Government of Indonesia to Sudan reflects the fraternity and concern of the Indonesian people towards Sudan. Indonesian Government hopes that this assistance could ease the burden felt by the Sudanese people due to the armed conflict," emphasized the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sudan, Sunarko, according to the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum.

The meeting between the Indonesian Ambassador to Sudan and the Sudanese Minister of Health was a follow-up to the decision of the Ministerial Meeting regarding the delivery of emergency medical aid to the Republic of Sudan. The meeting discussed preparations for the dispatch of emergency medical assistance from the Government of Indonesia, which includes medical supplies and medicines as requested by the Sudanese Government, with a total value reaching USD 1 million. The aid is planned to be sent from Jakarta to Port Sudan using Garuda Indonesia airlines. The humanitarian aid mission delegation will be led by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, who is scheduled to arrive in Sudan on April 4, 2024.

During the meeting, Minister of Health Dr. Haitham expressed appreciation to the Government of Indonesia for this ongoing assistance. Despite the considerable distance, Indonesia and Sudan have a very close relationship. On this occasion, the Minister also expressed hope that the coordination between the two countries can continue and have a positive impact on all parties.
