TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Most regions of Indonesia have the potential to experience extreme weather in the form of heavy rain with lightning and strong winds. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has even announced that nine regions are on alert status.

As reported by Antara on Tuesday, March 26, the agency said that West Java Province is on alert status due to the impact of extreme weather which can lead to disasters, such as floods, landslides, strong winds, and tornadoes.

Other areas on alert status include Jambi, Bengkulu, Lampung, Central Java, East Java, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and Papua.

Early warnings of the impact of moderate to heavy intensity rain with lightning have also been issued for Denpasar, Bengkulu, Gorontalo, Pontianak, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, and Medan in the morning and afternoon.

Other cities such as Palembang, Padang, Manado, Kendari, Makassar, Mamuju, Semarang, Samarinda, and Tarakan are expected to experience drizzle and cloudy skies in the afternoon until evening.

Meanwhile, most of Jakarta is expected to have partly sunny skies in the morning, changing to light rain and thick clouds in the afternoon and evening, with humidity of 80-90 percent and temperature of 24-29 degrees Celsius.

Dwikorita Karnawati, head of the agency, revealed that the potential for extreme weather had increased in most Indonesian regions due to the simultaneous intervention of three tropical cyclone seeds.

These are Tropical Cyclone Seeds 91S, 94S, and 93P, which were monitored around the Indian Ocean south of Java, the Timor Sea, and the Australian Sea, triggering increased rainfall in southern Indonesia.

The BMKG also predicted that most of Indonesia's coastal areas will experience high waves and tidal flooding on March 26-27.
