TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian General Elections Commission or KPU failed to hold the national vote recapitulation for Papua and Papua Pegunungan provinces tonight, March 19. A KPU member, Idham Holik, said the recount for both provinces would be held on Wednesday, March 20.

"InshaAllah we scheduled to read the recapitulation results of Papua and Papua Pegunungan tomorrow," Idham told Tempo on Tuesday, March 19.

He explained that currently, Papua Pegunungan KPU is still conducting vote recapitulation of Tolikara Regency in Jayapura. "The plenary meeting of Tolikara Regency KPU recapitulation is held at Grand Alison Hotel, Sentani, Jayapura. Near the airport.”.

According to Idham, tonight at 22:00 Eastern Indonesia Time, Papua and Papua Pegunungan KPU will leave for Jakarta with a chartered plane.

A KPU member, Mochammad Afifuddin, said the delay in Papua Pegunungan's recount was due to security reasons and technical problems. "Papua Pengunungan [KPU] is holding the plenary for Tolikara Regency in Jayapura due to the security situation," he said.

Afif explained that the plenary meeting for the Tolikara regency election recount was supposed to be held in Jayawijaya. However, due to security concerns, the KPU moved the meeting to Jayapura.

To date, 36 of 38 provinces have completed the national recapitulation. Out of all the provinces that conducted recapitulation, candidate pair number 2 Prabowo-Gibran won in 34 provinces, while candidate pair number 1 Anies-Muhaimin won in two provinces, namely Aceh and West Sumatra.

The results of the recapitulation of votes for the Presidential Election and the Legislative Election will be announced no later than March 20, 2024. This is stated in Electoral Law No. 7 of 2017, which stipulates that the results of national elections will be implemented no later than 35 days after the voting.
