Tourists from Eastern Europe in Bali bought foreign currency. But their presence also often leads to social problems. They ignore the rules regarding religious observances, drive recklessly and disregard traffic regulations.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia are not mandated to obtain travel insurance, but it is highly recommended to secure medical coverage. While the Indonesian government does not assume responsibility for medical expenses incurred by foreign nationals, the state-owned insurance firm, Jasa Raharja, provides compensation to tourists who become victims of traffic accidents.

Jasa Raharja is responsible for administering accident insurance for passengers using public or private transportation as well as pedestrians. According to the company’s official page jasaraharja.co.id, foreigners involved in traffic accidents in Indonesia will receive protection under Laws No. 33 and 34 of 1964, provided that they meet the specified criteria.

Here are the steps to apply for Jasa Raharja accident insurance for foreign tourists:

1. Assemble the necessary documents

First and foremost, ensure that you have gathered all the required documents, such as an accident report issued by the authorities, personal identification or passport, insurance policy, and supplementary documents such as a doctor's medical report, accident photos, or medical records. Remember to make copies of all documents before submitting them to the insurance company.

2. Contact the nearest office of Jasa Raharja

Once the documents are ready, reach out to the Jasa Raharja office closest to your location. You may search for the location and contact information using Google Maps.

3. Submit the claim

Jasa Raharja will schedule an appointment for your claim submission. You will be asked to complete a claim form and present the required documents. Provide precise and accurate details about the incident, including the location, time, and any witnesses. Ensure that you follow all instructions.

4. Claim verification and assessment

After submitting a claim, the company will verify and assess your claim. This process may take some time. During the process, stay in communication with Jasa Raharja as they may need additional clarifying information regarding the claim.

5. Monitor the claim status

Keep monitoring the status of the claim through an online portal or by contacting Jasa Raharja until the compensation is paid. If there are any delays or problems, do not hesitate to ask questions.

6. Payment process

Upon approval of your claim, Jasa Raharja will process payment, as agreed in the insurance policy, via cheque or bank transfer. Verify the payment details and ensure that they match the amount of your insurance policy. If there are any discrepancies or uncertainties, you may contact Jasa Raharja for clarification.

It is worth noting that a police report of the incident is necessary for foreign tourists to receive compensation. Claiming accident insurance can be complex, but by understanding the necessary steps and working with your insurance provider, you can ensure that your claim is processed smoothly.
