TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A forum of aviation and tourism workers' unions asked the government to take measures to prevent airplane ticket prices from soaring during the 2024 Eid homecoming season. The forum believes that the government can intervene to keep airfares stable, within the upper and lower limits that have been determined.

"What the government can do is intervene to maintain ticket prices at the upper and lower rates," chairman of GMF Employee Club (GEC) Garuda Indonesia Budi Cahyono, said on March 6.

This intervention, he said, is necessary to prevent ticket prices from spiraling out of control. He added that harmonization among all stakeholders in the aviation industry, including state airport operators Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II, as well as airlines, is necessary to minimize plane ticket prices and avoid burdening the public.

Maintaining airfares within the thresholds is crucial for ensuring a smooth homecoming flow during Eid this year, especially considering the high prices of rice and other necessities. "This year's Eid homecoming is a new momentum for the aviation industry as it occurs during the post-pandemic new normal era," Budi said.

Efforts for a Better Aviation System

Industry workers have agreed to resolutions to support global economic growth through the aviation industry. The meeting of all aviation and tourism sector labor unions at the Airnav office in Tangerang on Monday, March 4, produced five resolutions. One of them is improving workplace relationships by creating a harmonious, dynamic, and fair environment. This can be achieved by resolving conflicts constructively and improving communication between management and workers.

In addition to GEC Garuda Indonesia, the meeting was also attended by 13 other aviation and tourism sector labor unions, including SEKARPURA 2 (Serikat Angkasa Pura 2 Employees), SKYNAV (Indonesian Airnav Employees' Union), and APG (Garuda Pilots Association).
