TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, has called for enhanced collaboration and cooperation between Indonesian and Malaysian journalists in the field of journalism.
He made the statement on Monday (February 19) while receiving the executive board of the Malaysian Indonesian Journalists Association (ISMAWI) at the ministry's office in Jakarta, according to a press release from his ministry on Wednesday.
"Indonesia's and Malaysia's cultures are very close. Therefore, it is very beneficial to continue to bolster the relations of the media to improve mutual understanding between the people of the two countries," he said.
Setiadi said that Indonesian and Malaysian journalists can build cooperation on the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI).
"AI will replace many roles in the world of media, it also raises concerns about its potential impact on media rights," he observed.
To this end, an understanding of the ethical utilization of AI is necessary, he said, underscoring the need for building an understanding that AI is a technology that can help people but can cause harm if utilized unwisely.
He also said that Indonesian and Malaysian journalists should collaborate and synergize efforts to fight the spread of hoaxes in the digital space.
"We want to protect our digital space to be healthier and more productive," he added.
Setiadi said that Indonesian and Malaysian journalists are part of the power that maintains democracy.
"I am optimistic that from now on and in the future, the family relations between Indonesia and Malaysia will be better. We are building mutual understanding between the two countries," he added.
