TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said there would be follow-up voting in areas affected by the disaster. A follow-up vote will be held no later than ten days after the actual voting date, or by February 24 at the latest. The authority to determine the follow-up vote will be carried out in accordance with recommendations of the regional level of KPU based on the regency/city.

One of those areas is Demak Regency in Central Java. The regency with 108 voting stations (TPS) is affected by floods that have not yet receded. Hasyim said that the follow-up election process would be carried out according to natural conditions

"In Demak, for example, if the flood had not subsided after the 10 days had passed, then it would be impossible to finish the voting process within that duration," Hasyim said in Jakarta, on February 15.

Hasyim said that the authority to determine the follow-up vote will be carried out under the recommendations of the regional level of KPU based on the regency/city. "This will be recorded in the minutes of special incidents," said Hasyim.

Previously, ten villages in Karanganyar District, Demak were recorded as going to carry out follow-up voting due to flooding. They are Wonoketingal Village, Cangkring Rembang, Cangkring, Undaan Kidul, Undaan Lor, Ngemplik Wetan, Wonorejo, Karanganyar Village, Ketanjung, and Jatirejo.

In these ten villages, 27,669 voters must take part in the follow-up voting as they couldn’t exercise their rights to vote on February 14.

In addition to Demak, follow-up voting will also be carried out in Papua where 1,297 out of a total of 15,213 polling stations have not held voting yet. Two of the main factors for the delayed vote are problems with logistics distribution and conflicts in several areas. The 1,297 voting stations that have not carried out voting are spread across Papua Province, Central Papua Province, and Mountainous Papua Province.
