TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli forces have been attacking Rafah City in Southern Gaza intensively since the early hours of Monday, February 12, 2024. The massive bombardments from land and sea killed hundreds of civilians, the majority of whom were women and children.

Health authorities in Rafah reported the massacre by Israeli forces against more than 100 Palestinians, including women and children, and wounded hundreds of others.

A viral photo spreads on social media, showing a Palestinian child killed in Israeli strike with her legs blown off and hanging off a building.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society or PCRS reported that Rafah witnessed a series of violent bombardments in the heart of Rafah City, hitting residential buildings near the PCRS office.

Meanwhile, the Director of Quwaiti Hospital in Rafah Suhaib Al-Hams admitted that the hospital was overwhelmed with patients amid dwindling medical supplies.

According to local sources, Israeli fighter jets fired off around 40 strikes and targeted several houses and mosques filled with refugees. Intense shelling and bombardments from the sea also occurred in Rafah.

In just half an hour, Israel killed more than 60 Palestinian civilians internally displaced from various locations in Gaza.

Palestinians are now cornered in Rafah, the border with Egypt, after Israel time and time again forcibly displacing them from their homes to the ‘safe zone’ in Southern Gaza. Around 1.4 million Gaza residents and internally displaced Palestinians resided in Rafah.

On the 129th day of Israeli aggression, more than 28,176 Palestinians have been killed and 67,784 others are gravely injured. Thousands of Gazans are said to be trapped under the rubble and on the street since Israeli forces blocked off rescue teams from reaching them.

Most Palestinians in Gaza have been seeking refuge in Rafah, the densely populated city bordering Egypt. This is the biggest mass exodus in Palestine after the 1948 Nakba.
