TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) reported that it had paid almost all customers' deposit guarantee claims at the rural banks (BPR) that had gone bust; shut down or had their licenses revoked by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The total amount that had been paid to customers is Rp329.2 billion.

LPS board of commissioners' chief Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said that the amount was equivalent to 92.6 percent of the total failed banks' deposits of Rp355.4 billion.

Speaking at the press conference on the determination of the TBP at the Pacific Century Place Building at Jakarta's Senayan Central Business District on January 30, Purbaya said that usually the majority of customer loan guarantee claims have been paid within the first five days. "The ones that have not been paid are usually still in the process of being checked."

This year, he said, several banks are still in the process of payments. He said the LPS is trying to keep the public calm and not worried because customers' money will definitely be guaranteed.

Throughout 2023, four rural banks went bankrupt. BPR Bagong Inti Marga, BPR Karya Pemuda Indramayu, and BPR Indotama UKM Sulawesi. This year so far, two more rural banks have also gone bust: the BPR Wijaya Kusuma Cooperative and BPRS Mojo Artho.
