1. Indonesia Chosen as Leader of Tourism and Culture Working Group of the ASEAN-Korea Centre in Seoul, India

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the cultural and tourism cooperation division of the ASEAN-Korea Centre Alex Macatuno announced on Wednesday that in the first assembly of 2024, Indonesia was elected to lead the Tourism and Culture Working Group of the ASEAN-Korea Centre in Seoul.

Indonesia was chosen among 11 ASEAN representatives, with The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul appointed as the Chair, while the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Seoul was appointed as the deputy chair.

2. India, Indonesia to Celebrate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indian Embassy in Jakarta will celebrate the 75th year of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India this year. The year-long celebration will be kick-started with an "Odissi" traditional dance performance at the Indian Cultural Center Jawaharlal Nehru in Jakarta on January 26-27, 2024.

In addition to Jakarta, the dance will be performed in Bali, Surabaya, Purwakarta, and Batam. The Odissi dance will be performed by Gunjan Dance Academy from India.

3. Luhut Mulls Raising Tax on Fuel-powered Motorcycles

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government is planning to raise taxes on conventional motorcycles or fuel-powered motorcycles. The funds raised from this tax will later be allocated for public transportation.

“The government is preparing a policy to raise taxes on conventional motorbikes so that it can later subsidize fares [of mass transport] such as LRT or high-speed trains (Whoosh),” Luhut said in his speech video at the Grand Launching event of hybrid electric vehicle (BYD) in Jakarta, Thursday, January 18.
