TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi left for the Indonesian Capital Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan Province on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. In IKN, the President was scheduled to lead the groundbreaking ceremony of several infrastructure projects.

The President and his entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta at around 06:30 local time (WIB) aboard the Indonesia-1 presidential plane.

Upon arrival at Sultan Aji Mahmud Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, he boarded the Indonesian Air Force's Super Puma helicopter to reach the new capital city in North Penajam Paser Regency.

Agung Wicaksono, the Deputy for Financing and Investment at the IKN Authority, said in a virtual press conference on January 16, that the head of state would break ground on three categories of projects belonging to state-owned enterprises (SOEs), private companies, and state institutions. This marks the fourth phase of project groundbreaking for IKN infrastructure development.

President Jokowi was accompanied by SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Presidential Advisory Council Member Gandi Sulistiyanto, Military Secretary to the President Major General Rudi Saladin, Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) Commander Major General Achiruddin, and Acting Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat Erlin Suastini.
