TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia or BPS recorded that the value of imports in December 2023 reached US$19.11 billion, a 2.45 percent decline compared to the previous month. The Deputy of the Statistics and Services Department of BPS Puji Ismartini said the import value has declined on a yearly and monthly basis.

"This continues the downward trend of yearly [import value] for six consecutive months," she said during a virtual press conference on Monday, January 15.

Meanwhile, the import value of oil and gas in December 2023 showed a 5.37 percent increase yearly. Non-oil and gas showed a 5.57 percent.

The monthly import values slowed down both for oil and gas and non-oil and gas sectors. For the former, the import value decreased by 3.33 percent to US$3.37 billion while the latter decreased by 2.26 percent to US$15.73 billion.

The non-oil and gas sector decline was influenced by the import of several commodities, such as machinery and electrical equipment or HS85, which decreased by 11.42 percent. Next, 6.17 percent was recorded for machines and mechanical equipment, or HS84, and a 19.08 percent decrease for vehicles and their parts, or HS87.

On the other hand, oil imports experienced an increase of 2.44 percent, while crude oil and gas both showed a 15.25 percent and 11.55 percent decline respectively.
