TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Industry has spoken to PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) after the safety scandal involving Japanese Daihatsu broke out.

The Daihatsu safety scandal affected the production of a number of cars manufactured in Japan and overseas. Reuters even reported that the issue spills over to Southeast Asian automobile markets, including Indonesia.

However, the Director of Marketing and Director of Corporate Planning and Communication of ADM Sri Agung Handayani denied the claim and insisted that Indonesia's Daihatsu manufacturing is unaffected by the scandal. Alas, Daihatsu Indonesia's exports are temporarily halted following the scandal.

"We have ensured that in principle, all Daihatsu mobiles that are manufactured, distributed, and marketed in Indonesia do not have a problem with safety and security," Sri told Tempo on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

Responding to Astra's statement, the Ministry of Industry then asked the company to resume production and export. According to the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation, and Electronics of the ministry Taufiek Bawazier, the products of ADM factories' quality and safety are guaranteed.

"We have asked [PT ADM] to resume its export," he said in a statement in Bali, quoted by Tempo from Antara on Thursday, January. 4, 2024.

Furthermore, Taufiek also claimed that the safety scandal that broke out in Japan did not have a direct impact to PT ADM. Daihatsu's production in Indonesia has no issue with quality and safety, he said.

Meanwhile, the Executive Office Corporate Function Directorate of PT ADM Johan ensured that all vehicles manufactured by Daihatsu in Indonesia are conducted lawfully and do not possess any safety and quality issues.
