Inflation Rate Closes at 2.61% in 2023

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia, or BPS, reported that the inflation rate in Indonesia closed at 2.61 percent in 2023.

"In December 2023, the inflation rate was 0.41 percent or an increased consumer price index from 116.08 into 116.56," said the Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

Indonesia's inflation rate in 2023 was lower than in 2022 at 5.51 percent. According to Amalia, food and beverages, and tobacco were the main contributors to December's inflation rate, at 0.29 percent.

Other contributors to the inflation rate in December were chili pepper (0.06 percent), shallots (0.04 percent), bird's eye chili (0.02 percent), rice (0.02 percent), and egg (0.02 percent).

Meanwhile, the 2023 inflation rate was attributed to the inflation of each component, with the core components' inflation rate of 1.80 percent, contributing 1.1 percent to the yearly inflation.

BPS also recorded that the regulated price attributed to 0.32 percent of the inflation rate in December with 1.72 percent of the inflation rate. Throughout 2023, the commodities dominating the spike in prices are filtered kretek, airfare, and white cigarettes.
