TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Environmental Agency planned to deploy 3,180 cleaning personnel for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations. These personnel will be responsible for cleaning the entire city after the celebration is over.

The agency’s head Asep Kuswanto said the officers on duty will include garbage truck drivers, crews, and other teams. “We will also deploy additional officers from the Water Agency and collaborate with the Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU) in their respective areas,” Asep said in a written statement on Friday, Dec. 29.

He said the cleaning operations will begin before the new year’s eve and will continue until 5 a.m. on the day after “When New Year’s Eve passes and the main event is over, the officers will immediately move to various locations,” Asep explained.

The officers will be on standby since Sunday afternoon, Dec. 31, and the agency will hold a consignment call to check the readiness of the officers.

Waste management on New Year's Eve 2024 will be held at 25 points in five administrative cities and the Thousand Islands. The climax of the celebration will take place along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin to Monas, called Malam Muda Mudi or the nights of the youth.

Asep added that the city administration will also deploy 500 officers to ensure the facilities and infrastructure, including 10 garbage trucks, 10 toilet buses, and 20 road sweepers to deal with the waste.

The Jakarta Environmental Agency also urged all building managers along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and MH. Thamrin to open access to toilets in their lobbies or on the ground floor. “Hundreds of thousands of residents visiting the Malam Muda Mudi festival will need toilets, so we hope that building managers along Sudirman-Thamrin can open access to the public,” Asep said.
