TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government granted awards to individuals, community groups, institutions, or companies that contribute to the protection and preservation of the capital's environment. The awards were presented at the Regional Environmental Agency's Appreciation of Environmental Care Community (AMPL) 2023 event. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

“The award is not given because of a competition,” the agency head Asep Kuswanto said at Lumiere Hotel in South Jakarta on Tuesday. He attributed it to the community's and stakeholders' effort and desire to get involved in environmental management.

He believed that more public awareness and drive would result from this acknowledgment. This year’s prizes come in the form of certificates, cleaning supplies such as garbage trucks, and funds. Next year, the awards will be in the shape of incentives.

“This is what the Acting Governor wants—that in the future, incentives will be used, especially for companies that already manage their waste and the environment well,” Asep added.

He also hoped that this could serve as a trigger for all companies across the capital to manage their environment, including the emissions they produce.

Green Bay Pluit Condominium, Grand Mercure Hotel Jakarta Kemayoran, and The Koppel Building took home the prizes for best waste management in a firm and an area. The best synergy partner award went to WWF Indonesia Foundation, Vital Strategies, and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Integrated Terminal Jakarta.

In the education sector, 23 Adiwiyata schools were recognized with honors. The city government also gave awards to 21 neighborhood units or RW for the category of Climate Village Program or Proklim Madya.

Eleven RWs were also awarded the Best Waste Management Awards. The Jakarta government also honored awards to six waste banks, three maggot activists, two emission testing stations, and three waste management companies.
