Indonesian Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir reported that the mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia’s (PTFI) smelter in Gresik, East Java is a clear indication of the government's seriousness in carrying out downstream.

Erick made the statement when accompanying President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to inaugurate the expanded copper smelter today, Dec. 14. “Although some people do not understand the urgency of the downstream policy, President Jokowi takes the right steps and in fact, it must be done,” Erick said in his statement on Thursday.

Jakarta Health Office predicted that COVID-19 cases would spike for the upcoming two weeks, overlaps with Christmas and New Year holidays. As an anticipation, the office will keep observing the development of COVID-19 daily cases.

"The peak is estimated to occur in two weeks," Ngabilah Salma, the head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Immunization Section told Tempo in a brief text on Thursday.

3. South Korea, Indonesia to Develop Electric Bus Ecosystem in Bali

The Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and the South Korean government have agreed to collaborate to establish an ecosystem of electric buses to support public transport in Bali.

The ministry's deputy for maritime affairs and natural resources, Vivi Yulaswati, on Wednesday, said that the collaboration aims to support the achievement of the net zero emissions target by 2060. The transportation sector is the second-highest contributor of emissions, she added.
