TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo mentioned there will be no increase in bus fares ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. According to him, the office will supervise the bus fares set by each autobus company to remain within the upper limit of prices.

"At this time there is no increase in the fare since the lower and upper limits of the prices are monitored," he said on Wednesday in Jakarta.

He recommended autobus companies avoid manipulating the fares. Sayfrin also ensured that there are no limits to the capacity of passengers during the upcoming year-end holidays.

Thousands of inter-city and inter-province buses have been inspected to anticipate the anticipated holidays, he said. "Out of 820 autobus companies in Jakarta, we have conducted ramp check to all of the buses, so at least 4,230 buses are ready to operate," he explained.

Syafrin hoped bus passengers wear masks during their travel considering the spike in COVID-19 cases this month.

"There no limitation on the seat of the buses, but we urge passengers to protect themselves," he said.

Earlier, the Jakarta Health Office recorded 365 total new cases of COVID-19 as of today, Thursday, Dec. 14. Two elderly patients with comorbid recently passed away after being infected.
