TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office announced that residents aged 50 and older must complete their fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccination since a spike in cases has been detected in the province.

"Hopefully, pre-elderly aged 50 and up are completing the four doses of vaccination soon," said the Head of the Epidemiologist Surveillance and Immunization Division of the Jakarta Health Office on Thursday as quoted by Antara.

According to Ngabila, pre-elderly are included in the category of people vulnerable to more severe symptoms of COVID-19, which necessitates a complete dose of vaccination to improve immune.

The office previously reported a spike in COVID-19 cases since Nov. 13. 2023. Until the 3rd of December, COVID-19 cases increased by 30 to 40 percent from the previous week. However, she did not explain in detail about the spike.

"In a month (November), the cases increased by 22 percent compared to [October]," she explained.

Indonesia entered the endemic phase of COVID-19 in June 2023. The last spike recorded was in the May-June 2023 period.

Ngabila also said that this spike in COVID-19 spike is still manageable since there are no inpatient cases treated in hospitals.

"We urge people to stay calm and keep up the healthy lifedata-style," she said.
