TEMPO.CO, Kupang - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi called on the people of Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to preserve the Sandalwood tree (Santalum album) during a symbolic tree planting activity at the agricultural complex next to the NTT Acting Governor's official residence.

“Let's continue planting sandalwood, which is an endemic plant in NTT,” he said after planting the tree on Wednesday morning, Dec. 6.

The NTT is famous as the producing region of the best sandalwood. Hence, the government prioritized the conservation of sandalwood in the region.

He also explained that the greening action was also a form of support for the urban planning of Kupang as the capital of NTT Province.

Previously, the Head of the Benain Noemmia NTT Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS), Kludolfus Tuames, said 909 plant seeds were prepared to be planted on the 0.9-hectare land belonging to the provincial government.

During his official visit to NTT, Jokowi was scheduled to inaugurate infrastructure projects, including the dr. Ben Mboi General Hospital (RSUP), Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM), and the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Kupang, as well as to deliver social assistance.
