TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government officially set the Hajj quota for 2024 to 241,000 pilgrims; a 20,000 increase from the previous year. The decision was taken during the meeting between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Hajj Management Agency (BPIH) at the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023.

"The working committee of Commission VIII of DPR on BPIH and the working committee of the government agreed on these matters. Indonesian Hajj Quota for the year 2024 amounts to 241,000 pilgrims, with 221,720 regular Hajj pilgrims and 19,280 special Hajj pilgrims," said Abdul Wachid, the head of the Commission VIII working committee on Monday.

The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Hajj and Umrah Management of the ministry Hilman Latief and the Head of the Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) Fadlul Imansyah.

In addition to the Hajj quota, the meeting also decided on the Hajj Fund and Special Hajj Fund that must be paid by potential pilgrims. The government along with DPR agreed that the Hajj fund paid by the pilgrims amounted to Rp56,046,172.

The increase in the Hajj quota will give bigger opportunities for Indonesians who are planning to go. Meanwhile, the announcement of the fund hopefully will give certainty for potential pilgrims to plan and prepare for their Hajj pilgrimage in the upcoming year.
