1. Indonesian Language Named Official Language of UNESCO General Conference

The Indonesian language, Bahasa Indonesia, was declared as an official language of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

Mohamad Oemar, Indonesian Ambassador to France, Andorra, and Monaco, said in his statement in Jakarta that the Indonesian language was the 10th official language to be recognized by the UNESCO General Conference, alongside English, Arabic, Mandarin, French, Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Italian, and Portuguese languages.

“The Indonesian language has been a unifying force for the nation since the pre-independence era, especially through the 1928 Youth Pledge, which unites diverse ethnicities in Indonesia,” Oemar said.

2. 10 Strongest Militaries in Asia 2023, Indonesia Ranks Above Israel

The portal for ranking a country's military strength, Global Firepower (GFP), compiled a list of 45 countries on the Asian continent that have the best defense systems. The ranking is determined based on more than 60 factors to determine the final strength index score (PowerIndex).

Some of the components of the assessment in question are the amount of ownership of the main weapons system (alutsista), national financial conditions, as well as logistical capabilities, and geographical conditions.

3. OIC, Arab League Demand UNSC Adopt a Stern Resolution on Israel-Palestine Conflict

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League have demanded the UN Security Council to adopt a stern resolution on the situation in Israel and Palestine that has killed thousands of civilians in Gaza.

"What we convey is certainly our hope to the UNSC, there have been resolutions but the resolution is not comprehensive and we express our hope to the P5 countries (permanent members of the UN Security Council) to do more as the situation worsens," she said to Antara in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Monday, November 20, 2023.
