TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono asked his government employees to maintain inflation ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"We must anticipate the food prices to [keep] it stable ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations," he said in a written statement on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

For that reason, Heru Budi held a high-level meeting (HLM) with Local Inflation Control Team (TPID) to coordinate and synergize with all stakeholders to maintain the inflation rate.

In October, Jakarta was among the lowest in terms of inflation rate compared to other provinces in Indonesia, with 2.08 percent y-o-y. Meanwhile, the province held the biggest influence on the national economy and inflation rate. Thus, an economic recovery and inflation control in Jakarta will have a nationwide impact.

"HLM with TPID was conducted following the mandate of President Joko Widodo," he said.

According to Heru, Jokowi has instructed regional governments to control inflation by maintaining the stability of commodities prices. Regional governments are expected to directly observe the prices and intervene in case of any emerging issues.

Heru Budi also conveyed that TPID has conducted several measures to anticipate inflation during the holidays, including routine inspection of food prices and quality, and maintaining the food supplies entering Jakarta for food procurement and distribution.

Additionally, TPID also conducted B2B agreements of Inter-Regional Agreement in 38 regencies and nine provinces for rice, beef, chicken, chicken eggs, chili, and shallot procurement.

Lastly, TPID also supported the National Movement on Food Inflation Control by providing seeds and controlling inflation expectations of the Cheap Food Movement at the local level.
