TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo proposed the odd-even traffic policy to be implemented for motorcycles in Jakarta areas. The policy restricts motorbikes with license plates ending in an odd number to pass through certain roads on odd dates and vice versa.

Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono responded to the input. He said the city administration would first study the regulation with the police, particularly Jakarta Metro Jaya Police.

“We will think about it. All of this must be studied together with the Traffic Directorate of Metro Jaya Police,” Heru Budi said as quoted from Antara on Wednesday, October 11.

He could not comment much on whether the policy will be implemented and when it will come into effect if it will be enforced on the capital's roads.

“We're still discussing it,” Heru said.

In line with the Jakarta Acting Governor, the Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said that the traffic system for motorcycles needs further study. “We will study this proposal further comprehensively,” he said.

National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo suggested the odd-even traffic policy for motorcycles as a proactive measure to reduce air pollution in Jakarta and to complement the similar policy that has been implemented for four-wheeled vehicles.

“Because 67 percent of emissions from motorized vehicles cause pollution,” Listyo said last September.
