TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) is safeguarding the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Libyan government to ensure accountability. The aid is intended to support flood-stricken Libya after Storm Daniel on September 9.

The flood affected 884,000 people, killing 6,000 with 10,000 remaining missing.

"BPKP is involved to safeguard the financial accountability and the performance of the humanitarian aid transfer process," said the Supervisory Director of the Social and Disaster Management Department of BPKP Wawan Yulianto in a written statement yesterday. The safeguard is needed since humanitarian aid to Libya was financed through the State Budget.

"The Indonesian government transferred 27 logistics aid weighing 46 tonnes amounting to more than Rp13.9 billion," said Sorni Paskah Daeli from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs.

The logistics aid, Sorni detailed, included 5 units of refugee tents, 100 units of family tents, 50 units of genset, 1,000 units of velbed, 500 units of mattresses, 1,250 packets of sanitary equipment, 5,000 sets of children's clothes, and 2,500 sets of adult clothes.

Additionally, the aids included 2,000 sets of underwear, 100 units of appliances, 1,000 sheets of shrouds, 1,000 units of body bags, 30 units of solar lights, 5,000 packets of rendang, 5,000 units of protein milk, and 5,000 units of ready-made foods. The aids were transferred yesterday on the Terra Avia Cargo Plane.

"The situation in Libya is a learning experience for us to improve the capacity to tackle climate change," Sorni concluded.
