1. India, Malaysia, and Indonesia Team Up to Fight Western Countries' Black Campaign Against Palm Oil

Palm oil giants Malaysia and Indonesia are teaming up with India to fight what they call a black campaign targeted at the commodity.

The three countries promised to jointly promote the positive benefits of palm oil to the global community at the 2nd Sustainable Vegetable Oils Conference (2nd SVOC) which was held at the ITC Maratha Hotel, Mumbai, India, September 27, 2023, last Wednesday.

2. Indonesia Officially Bans TikTok Shop for Commerce

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo revisited social commerce regulation by revising Minister of Trade Regulation No. 50 of 2020 regarding Provisions on Business Licensing, Advertising, Guidance and Supervision of Businesses Trading Trade through Electronic Systems. The revised regulation prohibited social media such as TikTok to conduct commerce.

Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan announced the decision after a limited meeting with Jokowi today. According to Zulhas, social commerce is only allowed to facilitate goods and services promotion without direct transaction. Additionally, a different platform for social media and economic activity is required.

3. Taiwan Gas Explosion; TETO Eases Visa for Families of Indonesian Victims

Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) announced that the office will ease visa regulation for the families of Indonesian victims of the Taiwan gas explosion. Around eight Indonesian migrant workers were injured in the explosion.

"TETO will provide aid to ease the visa authorization if the victims' families intend to visit Taiwan," TETO provided in a brief message received in Jakarta on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Previously, an alleged gas explosion was reported on Sunday evening in a residential building in Tainan City, Taiwan, as reported by Taiwan News. The explosion injured eight Indonesian migrant workers who were attending a party at the location with second and third-degree burns.
