TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi urged his cabinet ministers to conduct studies on the development of the Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek’s Bogor Line. As widely reported, LRT Jabodebek was inaugurated on August 28, 2023, connecting Jakarta and two neighboring cities, Bekasi and Depok.
“I also ask for an immediate study on the construction of the LRT to Bogor. If we look at the current situation of the LRT, it is always full [of passengers],” he said in a limited meeting on the integration of Jabodetabek transportation modes at the State Palace, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and SOE Minister Erick Thohir.
The state head also called for studies on the LRT line to Kelapa Gading and Manggarai. “So the scope of this mass transportation will expand more. And don't forget to make our transport friendly for elderly users, people with disabilities, and children,” he underlined.
He expected that the integration of public transport could be implemented, especially in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
Apart from the route, Jokowi hoped that the payment system could also be integrated soon. “I think it will attract people to use public transportation,” he said.
As previously reported, Jakarta had long implemented the integrated tariff for public transportation modes in the capital, namely MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, and Transjakarta, with a maximum fare of Rp10,000.
Unfortunately, PT MRT Jakarta director Tuhiyat revealed on September 15 that only two percent of the total passengers used the integrated fare.
