TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday said that there have been no reports that tropical storm Hilary has claimed Indonesians as victims. Nonetheless, Indonesian authorities in Mexico and the USA continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with local authorities as well as the Indonesian diaspora to anticipate harm.

The Indonesian Embassy in Mexico City and the Consulate General in Los Angeles also reminded Indonesians living in affected areas to remain vigilant and alert. They are advised to contact the Indonesian government's representative hotline for help if required. The numbers are +5215562985506 for the Indonesian Embassy in Mexico City hotline and +12135908095 for the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles hotline.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Mexico City and the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles continue to monitor the impact of Hurricane Hilary in both the United States and Mexico," said a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hilary entered the state of California on Sunday, August 20, 2023, causing violent flash floods east and west of Los Angeles. Currently, United States authorities have downgraded Hilary's status from a hurricane to a tropical storm.

In Mexico, Hillary claimed one victim so far. The storm hit the northern part of Mexico's Baja California peninsula on Sunday, leading to nearly 1,900 people being evacuated to shelters. On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Mexican authorities downgraded Hurricane Hilary to Category 1 (lowest).
