TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has sought to strengthen cooperation in the manpower sector with South Korea, including in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs), job training, scholarships, and other technical assistance programs.

"Under the leadership of South Korean Employment and Labor Minister Lee Jung-sik, I believe that cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea, especially in the manpower field, can be developed and sustainable," Secretary General of the Ministry Anwar Sanusi said in a statement released on Saturday, July 22, 2023..

During a bilateral meeting in Indore, India, on Friday (July 21, 2023), Sanusi informed that his ministry submitted a proposal entitled 'Indonesia's Improvement Proposal on OSH Policy' at the end of 2022, with the South Korean Employment and Labor Ministry and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) as implementing partners.

The proposal was submitted within the framework of Official Development Assistance (ODA) cooperation, namely the Policy Consulting Program for Improvement of OSH Law and Policies,

However, the Indonesian government has not received clear information from the South Korean government regarding the results of the selection for the project evaluation, he said.

"We hope that the proposal will be approved by the South Korean government and we can implement it soon. Activities inside the proposal will be carried out under this cooperation that will support labor inspection reform in Indonesia, including the revitalization of the Occupational Health and Safety Center," he added.

Sanusi said that the Manpower Ministry is one of the ministries in Indonesia that is actively participating in the World Expo, which is held every five years.

At the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, the Ministry of Manpower had the opportunity to hold an exhibition at the Indonesian Pavilion with several other agencies. The ministry also organized an Employment Business Forum, which brought the government, employers, and job seekers together.

"At the upcoming World Expo Osaka in 2025, the Ministry of Manpower has also registered its committees. We hope that the ministry can continue to participate in World Expo activities, especially in promoting employment issues and the development and expansion of job opportunities," he remarked.
