Singapore Still Indonesia' s Biggest Foreign Investor in Q2-2023

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Investment/Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board Bahlil Lahadalia said that in the second quarter of 2023, Indonesia managed to achieve an investment realization of Rp398.7 trillion with Singapore as its leading foreign investor.

"In the second quarter of 2023, Singapore is the number one foreign investor in Indonesia with US$3.4 billion," he said during a press conference in his office in South Jakarta, on Friday, July 21, 2023.

Meanwhile, China held second place as the biggest foreign investor with US$2.6 billion, followed by Hong Kong with US$2 billion, Japan with US$1 billion, and Malaysia with US$0.8 billion of investment.

According to the investment realization report from the January to June 2023 period, Singapore was also the biggest foreign investor with US$7.7 billion. Followed by China with US$3.8 billion, Hong Kong with US$3.5 billion, Japan with US$2 billion, and the US with US$1.6 billion.

The biggest sector for foreign investment realization in this period was the basic metal, metal goods, and non-machinery and equipment industry which absorbed US$2.5 billion, reaching 20% of the total foreign investment.

Following that, the transportation, warehouse, and telecommunication sectors absorbed US$1.9 billion or 15.4% of the total investment. Followed by the chemical and pharmaceutical industry with US$1.3 billion or 10% of the total investment. The mining sector absorbed US$1.2 billion or 9.9% while the housing, industrial area, and office sectors amounted to US$0.8 billion or 6.4% of the total foreign investment.

The biggest foreign investment realization also took place in West Java with total investment amounting to US$2.6 billion. Followed by Central Sulawesi with US$1.7 billion, Jakarta with US$1.5 billion, Banten with US$1.2 billion, and East Java with US$1 billion.
