TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned air navigation firm AirNav Indonesia confirmed that the aircraft belonging to PT. Semuwa Aviasi Mandiri or SAM Air lost contact in Papua on Friday, June 23, 2023.

Rosedi, AirNav Corporate Secretary, said that the Cessna Grand Caravan C208B aircraft is registered under the abbreviation PK-SMW.

“The plane departed from Elelim Airport to Ilaga Airport, Papua, at 10:53 WIT (Eastern Indonesian Time) and lost contact at 11:07 WIT,” he said in a written statement on Friday, June 23, 202e.

According to him, until this statement is issued, a search is being carried out using a Pilatus Susi Air plane with the registration of PK-VVK. The plane left Wamena airport at 13:37 WITA (Central Indonesian Time).

“AirNav Indonesia along with all relevant aviation stakeholders continues to find out the whereabouts of the PK-SMW aircraft and update conditions on the field,” said Rosedi.

Additionally, until this news is published, it is not yet known how many passengers boarded the plane.
