TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s first bullet train, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train (KCJB), conducted a trial test today in which reaching a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the peak speed of its operation on a 142.3-kilometer track.

This figure breaks the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) record as it far exceeds the speed of regular trains of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia China (KCIC) Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi explained that the speed shows progress in the national railway technology. This also marks the foundation of the country’s transportation technology advancement.

“It is hoped that people will switch to public transportation in all their activities around the Jakarta and Bandung areas,” Dwiyana or Edo as he familiarly called said at Halim Station, East Jakarta, on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Today’s test, he explained, went safely, smoothly, and under control. The preparation of the train operation is also on the right track after achieving the peak operating speed.

“KCIC together with all stakeholders will continue to carry out tests while preparing the operating permits so that KCJB can be immediately enjoyed by the community,” Edo added.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan received the certificate of the MURI Record after riding the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train. The two ministers and several other officials rode on the bullet train from Halim Station in Jakarta to Padalarang Station in Bandung.
