Ministry Explains Sand Export Supervision Measures

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Marine and Fisheries Affairs Ministry is confident that there will be no illegal sea sand export following the enactment of Government Regulation No. 26 of 2023 concerning the Management of Sedimentation product at Sea.

The statement was made by Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Rear Admiral Adin Nurawaluddin to Tempo on Friday, June 2, 2023.

"With such surveillance concept, I am certain there will be no illegal [sand] export," Adin said through a phone call.

Adin also explained the surveillance mechanism of sea sedimentation produce. According to Adin, the evaluation team will decide which location that can have extractable sedimentation and how much.

Adin added that his team will make sure of the business that will be extracting the sedimentation had obtained proper license. He will also examined if the mining location is valid or not.

"After the location has been matched, how much is the company taking? Is it in accordance with the permit or not? These are the most important part of the initial supervision," Adin explained.

In addition, there will be a suction ship equipped with transmitter. Adin said that with the device the ship's movement can be monitored. Adin also raised caution and reminded ships not to exit their designated zone.

"If the ship exits the zone, our ship will arrest the ship," Adin said.

In relation to transmitter surveillance, Adin added that his ministry will conduct air surveillance.
