TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in a statement on Wednesday announced that law enforcement officers will follow up on President Joko Widodo's orders to swiftly handle crimes related to human trafficking.
He said the initial step taken by the police will be done by mapping out patterns of the syndicate and will follow it up with prosecution.
"We will immediately follow up on the president's order," Sigit said on Wednesday, May 31. “We will take action on anyone who is involved in the crime.”
His statement came after President Jokowi called for a restructuring of the human trafficking task force.
The President’s order was mentioned in the Cabinet’s internal meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, May 30, which specifically discussed human trafficking. Meanwhile, the restructuring of the human trafficking task force was announced by the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD.
“The President's ordered for swift steps to be taken within this one month to show the public that the state, police institution, and military are present to handle this issue,” said Mahfud at the Presidential Palace.
