TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a press release on Monday, announced the two-day visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on May 23 - May 24 after officially being invited by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in terms of seeking possible bilateral partnerships.

Raisi is scheduled to meet Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, which will also see Iranian delegates paying a visit to South Jakarta’s Heroes Cemetery during the two-day visit.

Bilateral views will be exchanged between the high-level delegations of the two nations during this state visit. Various cooperation documents in a multitude of sectors, including in the fields of energy, pharmaceutical and health products, food products, customs cooperation, bilateral trade facilitation, science and technology, and culture will be signed.

Moreover, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry stated on its website that "During this visit, several important agreements will be agreed upon in advancing bilateral relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Iran, including the PTA (preferential trade agreement) and several MoUs, especially in the economic field and also handling narcotics."

Iranian President Raisi will also be scheduled to meet with the Speakers of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), scholars, thinkers, lecturers, and students as well as Indonesian business people. Raisi is also scheduled to visit the Istiqlal Mosque.

The last official state visit from Iran was back in April of 2015 when Hassan Rouhani was present at the 50th commemoration of the Asia-Africa Conference. Meanwhile, Jokowi’s last visit to Iran was in December 2016.
