TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo went through a packed schedule during the first day of the intergovernmental political forum 49th G7 Summit held at Hiroshima, Japan, on May 20th.

Among the agendas are bilateral meetings with the IMF and a number of G7-affiliated members Japan, Britain, Canada, Brazil, the Cook Islands, and Australia. The Indonesian President was also present at two sessions of the G7 Outreach Summit meeting, as well as a side event meeting initiated by the United States, and the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII).

Jokowi brought a multitude of discussions linked to the results of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, particularly regarding the issue of Myanmar.

In bilateral meetings, several specific issues emerged. The following is the result of Indonesia's agreement in a bilateral meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF and a number of countries.

1. IMF Managing Director

The focal point of Indonesia and IMF’s meeting was the uncertain aspect of the world economy. The IMF considers Indonesia's economy relatively stable and also acknowledged growth above the average world economic growth. IMF expects Indonesia's assistance for other developing countries, especially in the field of poverty alleviation.

2. Japan

The main talking points with Japan include Jokowi's request that negotiations on the IJEPA review be completed in September this year and the MRT bidding process, which he hopes could be completed soon. Jokowi also negotiated for the elimination of tariffs on canned tuna and the expansion of market access for tropical fruits from Indonesia.

3. United Kingdom

Jokowi requested that the UK's due diligence policy for agricultural and forestry products not discriminate against Indonesia's main commodities, mainly commodities such as palm oil, rubber, cocoa, and coffee. UK stressed its commitment to strengthening partnerships in the energy transition sector.

4. Canada

Discussions during this bilateral meeting touched on the completion of the Indonesia-Canada CEPA negotiations. Talks about the realization of the North Kalimantan green airport construction were also discussed. The cooperation implementation between Indonesian SOEs and the Canadian private sector regarding the supply of potash and wheat was also discussed.

5. Brazil

The meeting with Brazil discussed the importance of strengthening cooperation among the Global South, including in the forestry sector. The two leaders also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation between forest-owning countries; Indonesia, Brazil, and the Democratic Republic of Congo which is home to 30 percent of the world's tropical forests.

During the meeting with the President Lula of Brazil, Jokowi discussed the development of beef cattle cooperation and beef procurement and invited Jokowi to visit Brazil.

6. Cook Islands

The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation with the Pacific region, including dealing with climate change and Indonesia's commitment to supporting development in Pacific countries. The Cook Islands Prime Minister also acknowledged Indonesia's active engagement with Pacific countries, including Indonesia's efforts to strengthen relations between PIF and ASEAN.

7. Australia

The meeting with Australia at the 40th G7 Summit included discussing plans for the President's visit to Australia in the near future for the Annual Leaders' Meeting.
