TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Survey institute Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), issued its latest survey on how the public views the government’s performance. The survey was conducted from April 30 to May 7, 2023. One of the intriguing aspects is that the majority, or 81.7 percent of respondents, approved of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s overall leadership.

“This is the highest rating that Jokowi scored throughout his presidency, including his first term,” said SMRC director of research Deni Irvani in a written statement on Friday, May 19, 2023.

Apart from gaining the approval of 81.7 percent of respondents, 17.3 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with Jokowi’s performance as a leader, and merely 1 percent chose not to answer. The survey samples 1,220 respondents with multistage random sampling and a 3.1 percent margin of error.

SMRC also discovered that the increased public satisfaction with Jokowi aligns with the strengthening of positive sentiments towards the government's responses in dealing with economic recovery due to the pandemic and various other socio-economic problems.

Currently, 74.5 percent of respondents of the same survey are very or quite satisfied with the central government's work in handling economic recovery due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, 23 percent of respondents were less or dissatisfied, and 2.5 percent preferred not to answer.

In the past two years, the satisfaction level with the government's performance amid Covid-19 economic recovery programs from 61.3 percent in March 2021 to 74.5 in May 2023.
