TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that the country’s current economic situation is relatively good. She acknowledged that, however, there are a number of challenges that must be encountered, starting from global shocks, pandemics, geopolitical situations, climate change, and disruptions in the digital economy.

“Indonesia keeps the awareness of external challenges. On the other hand, Indonesia also has various tasks and challenges to improve the structure of the Indonesian economy,” Sri said in a press conference broadcast on the Finance Ministry's YouTube, Friday, May 19, 2023.

The minister mentioned that infrastructure development is still lagging. The government must also continue to improve more efficient regulatory policies and bureaucracy, including in response to challenges related to the quality of human resources.

These situations, she went on, will be used by the government as the background and framework to formulate fiscal policy as a macroeconomic instrument and the direction of national development that will be achieved with the State Budget.

“The 2024 State Budget, which will be drafted together with the DPR (House of Representatives), will serve as a crucial foundation,” the minister remarked.

“And 2024 will be the last year of Bapak Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin's leadership. Because of that, focuses will be made to maintain and increase the ability to achieve strategies and various economic and national development goals,” Sri Mulyani concluded.
