TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga on Wednesday claimed Indonesia's trade performance in 2022 had reached a record high since the country's independence.

“As of December 2022, our trade performance reached a historical milestone of US$54.56 billion. That is the highest since we declared independence,” Jerry explained at the ARISE+ Indonesia program dissemination event in Jakarta on May 17.

According to him, this number is a surplus that was achieved in 36 consecutive months. He also took the time to acknowledge the milestone by lauding employees at the Ministry of Trade, as well as the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Indonesia, Vincent Piket, who continues to support the relationship between the EU and Indonesia.

In terms of the EU - Indonesia trade performance, he said the total exports reached US$21.40 billion in 2022, which grew 19.54 percent year on year (yoy). Meanwhile, Indonesia's imports from the European Union were around US$11.48 billion, which is a 4.97 percent yoy growth.

Thus, the total trade value between Indonesia and the European Union in 2022 amounted to US$32.88 billion, or up by 14.02 percent.

Indonesia's main export products to the European Union in 2022 include crude palm oil (CPO) with a contribution of 9.81 percent, sports shoes at 6.13 percent, fatty acids at 6.05 percent, copper ore at 4.88 percent, and coal at 2.51 percent.
