List of Indonesian Regions Affected by Coastal Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in its press statement on May 15 warned that there a number of regions will likely experience coastal flooding in mid-May.

“A new moon phase on May 19 will potentially increase the maximum tidal height,” said the BMKG head of maritime meteorology Eko Prasetyo on Monday, May 15, 2023.

The potential coastal tidal flood will differ according to the specific locations, however, in general, the coastal flood will affect activities around port harbors, coastal neighborhoods, and salt ponds.

The following is the coastal flood forecast provided by the agency:

- Coast of Aceh (Sabang, Meulaboh) on May 19-22

- North Sumatra (Belawan coast and its vicinity) on May 16-22

- West Sumatra (padang coast) on May 19

- Riau Islands coastal area (Karimun) on May 18-25

- Riau Islands (Batu Ampar coast) on May 18-23

- Riau Islands (coast of Tanjung Uban) on May 18-24

- Banten north coast on May 18-27

- West coast of Banten on May 17-23

- South coast of Banten on May 17-23

- Jakarta's north coast on May 19-24

- West Java’s North coast on May 16-19

- Central Java’s North coast (Semarang City, Demak Regency, Pekalongan Regency, Kendal Regency, Batang Regency, Pati Regency, Jepara Regency, Rembang Coastal Area, Tegal City, Brebes Regency, Pemalang Regency) on May 16-19

- East Java Coast on May 18-20

- Coast of NTB (West Lombok Regency coast and Bima coast) on May 19-25

- North Maluku coast (South coast of Taliabu, the coast of Sula Islands, the coast of Mangole, West coast of Obi, West coast of Bacan, Loloda coast, West coast of Morotai) on May 18-20

- North coast of Jayapura (Demta, Depapre, Ravenirara, and Muara Tami) and north coast of Sawai (Mamberamo Regency) on May 20-22

- South Papua coast (coast of Merauke) on May 21-25

- South Papua coast (coastal of the Muli Straits) on May 18-25
