TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG recorded the latest earthquake in which the shaking could be felt in Cilacap, Central Java. The quake was centered at the sea at a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale.

BMKG head of earthquake and tsunami Daryono reported that it occurred on Friday, May 12, at 04:56 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The epicenter was located 76 kilometers southeast of Cilacap, at a depth of 15 kilometers.

The quake was a shallow one, "caused by the activities of the faults on the sea floor," said Daryono in his report.

The tremor was felt in Cilacap at the level of II-III on the MMI scale. It can be felt by several people, makes light hanging objects sway, and the strongest tremors are felt as if a truck is passing by.

To date, Daryono said there has been no report of damages caused by the earthquake. "The earthquake did not show the potential for a tsunami."
