TEMPO.CO, Palembang - TikTok travel celebrity Lina Mukherjee has officially been named a suspect in a case that charges her for allegedly committing blasphemy following a content she made where she recorded herself reciting Arabic phrases before eating fried pork skin.

Lina was rumored to face jail time amidst an extensive interrogation process at the South Sumatra Police headquarters. However, investigators eventually did not place her under arrest despite her status.

In front of dozens of journalists, she offered a public apology for the incident and apologized for offending the Muslim community. Lina then touched on the role of online content creators in elevating the knowledge of their followers.

“Let this be a valuable lesson for content creators and to be more prudent in the future,” said Lina on Thursday, May 4, 2023. “As for the Muslim community, I offer my deepest apology.”

Police decided not to detain Lina Mukherjee due to health reasons. Police investigators revealed that Lina had also undergone ICU treatment during the process.

The initial TikTok video itself showed Lina eating roasted pork skin, which investigators said Lina had willingly consumed an animal derivative that is banned by the religion. Her video was reported to the police by an Islamic cleric from Palembang on March 15, 2023.
